Carrot Oil in North Carolina
In North Carolina, nearly 60 counties in the Northeast have approved bills to expand fracking operations to prevent contamination.
The state is one of three states where fracking is allowed without any environmental impact.
Fracking’s benefits were previously cited by a group of environmental groups and the oil industry, but the National Environmental Registry has said the fracking activity violates federal law.
“This is very, very important because this is not just a one state thing, because that could trigger massive change if we’re allowed to drill with these chemicals at our disposal in the way that we would in traditional ways today in the United States,” said Steve Boren, director of the nonprofit environmental group New York State Environmental Defense Fund. “The fracking will make it much harder for water resources to stay clean and much more difficult for the environment so that we can get back to our water, which we should be protecting.”
